Minecraft Ocean Ruins Finder
By the ChunkScan Team · Updated October 2026
Quick answer: To find ocean ruins, enter your Java world seed on this page: the map marks every ocean ruin in reach with its coordinates. Ruins lie on the floor of every ocean biome, so a seed with sea near spawn has several within a few hundred blocks. For example, Java seed 1 has ocean ruins at -200, 24, about 200 blocks from 0, 0. Link straight to a result with /ocean-ruins-finder?seed=YOUR_SEED.
Ocean ruins are sunken buildings of stone bricks or sandstone on the sea floor, guarded by drowned and full of blocks to brush for sherds. This finder maps ocean ruins for any Java seed, entirely in your browser, so your seed is never sent to a server. It is made for Java Edition: the positions are checked against an independent reference, and Bedrock places ocean ruins differently.

What can you find in ocean ruins?
Most ruins hold suspicious blocks to brush: suspicious sand in warm ruins, suspicious gravel in cold ones. Brushing them gives coal, emeralds, wheat, gold nuggets, an iron axe or a pottery sherd: angler, shelter and snort from warm ruins, blade, explorer, mourner and plenty from cold ones. Warm ruins can also give a sniffer egg, the only way to get a sniffer. Many ruins hide a chest as well, with coal, gold, emeralds, a fishing rod or an enchanted book, and a buried treasure map is a common find in it.
Where do ocean ruins spawn?
Ocean ruins generate in every ocean biome, shallow or deep, from frozen to warm. On Java the world is split into regions of 20 by 20 chunks, and each region gets one possible ruin spot in its first 12 by 12 chunks. The spot becomes a ruin when the biome there is an ocean, so any seed with open water nearby has ruins close to spawn. Warm and lukewarm oceans get sandstone ruins, every other ocean gets stone brick ruins. About three in ten are large ruins, and a large ruin usually comes with a cluster of small ones around it, so one marker can mean several buildings.
How do I explore ocean ruins safely?
Drowned guard many ruins, and some carry tridents, so bring armor and a ranged weapon. A turtle shell or a respiration helmet buys time underwater, a door placed against a wall makes an air pocket, and night vision or a conduit lights up the sea floor. Bring a brush for the suspicious sand and gravel: breaking those blocks with a tool destroys the loot. The marker shows the ruin’s chunk; swim there and look down, since the ruins rest on the sea floor.
Does the ocean ruins finder work for Bedrock?
This finder is made for Java Edition. Ocean ruins generate in both editions, but Bedrock uses its own placement, so the same seed puts its ruins in other places. Our Java ruins matched an independent reference on all 902 ruins across 120 test seeds. The Bedrock side of this finder is not checked yet, so on Bedrock use the coordinates only as a hint and confirm them in game.
