Minecraft Buried Treasure Finder
By the ChunkScan Team · Updated October 2026
Quick answer: To find buried treasure, type your Java seed and leave X and Z empty to search from 0, 0; the page shows the nearest chest with its X, Z, chunk and a /tp command. Dig down a few blocks there. Example: on Java seed 1 the nearest buried treasure to 0, 0 is at -439, -343. Link a search with /buried-treasure-finder?seed=YOUR_SEED.
Type your seed, and this finder shows the nearest buried treasure chest with its X and Z, its chunk, the distance and a /tp command to copy. Search from 0, 0 or from where you stand (paste F3 + C). It works for Java Edition 1.18 and later; Bedrock places buried treasure differently, so it is not covered yet.
Where buried treasure generates
Buried treasure is a single chest hidden under the sand of beaches and snowy beaches. The game rolls every chunk of the world once: about one chunk in a hundred gets a treasure spot, and it only generates when that chunk is a beach. The chest always sits at block 9, 9 of its chunk, a few blocks down, usually in sand or sandstone. Inside you will find a heart of the sea, which you need for a conduit, plus iron, gold, emeralds, TNT and often a few fish.
How this finder works
The page runs the Java world generator in your browser, the same engine that draws our seed map. It checks every chunk in a square around your start point for a treasure roll, keeps the ones that land on a beach and shows the closest. The search grows from 512 to 4,096 blocks out until it finds one. The positions match the game on Java Edition 1.18 and newer. Bedrock places buried treasure differently, so this page is Java only for now.
How to use it
Type your seed (run /seed in chat, or copy it from the world settings). Leave X and Z empty to search from the middle of the world, or type where you are now: press F3 + C and paste the line into either box. The result updates on its own. Go to the X and Z it shows, dig straight down a few blocks, and the chest is there. Next nearest skips that chest and shows the next one further out; Copy /tp gives a command for creative mode.
Treasure maps
The treasure maps in shipwrecks and ocean ruins point to these same chests: the map's red X is the nearest buried treasure to where the map was found. If you would rather not sail around, look it up here and check the spot on the seed map first, since some chests sit under water next to the shore.
