Why find a pillager outpost?
A pillager outpost is a dark oak watchtower guarded by pillagers and a captain carrying the illager banner. The chest at the top holds crossbows, arrows, food, iron ingots and, since 1.19, a goat horn. Wooden cages next to the tower can hold an allay or an iron golem. Pillagers keep spawning around the tower, which makes an outpost the usual spot for a raid farm or a steady supply of emeralds and totems.
Where do pillager outposts spawn?
Outposts generate on the surface in plains, desert, savanna, taiga and snowy plains, the biomes villages use, and since 1.18 also in meadows, groves, snowy slopes, cherry groves and the frozen, jagged and stony peaks. On Java the world is split into regions of 32 by 32 chunks; each region gets one possible spot, and only about one spot in five becomes an outpost. A spot within 10 chunks of a village is dropped, so outposts never sit inside a village but often just outside one.
How do I start a raid from an outpost?
Kill the captain, the pillager with the banner. Since 1.21 it drops an ominous bottle: drink it for Bad Omen, then walk into a village and the omen turns into a raid. Beat every wave and you get Hero of the Village, which gives you cheaper trades and gifts from the villagers. A village close to the outpost saves a long walk with the effect running, so check the village finder for the same seed.
Are pillager outposts the same on Java and Bedrock?
Outposts generate in both editions, but the same seed places them differently on Java and Bedrock, and Bedrock spreads them out over larger regions. Choose your edition above before you travel. Both maps are verified: across 600 Java seeds, 217 of 218 outposts matched a vanilla server, and every Bedrock outpost checked matched an independent reference.
