Minecraft Desert Temple Finder
By the ChunkScan Team · Updated October 2026
Quick answer: To find a desert temple, enter your Java world seed on this page: the map marks every desert pyramid in reach with its coordinates. Temples only stand in desert biomes, so a seed that spawns far from sand may need a wider view. For example, Java seed 28 has a desert temple at 312, 232 and a second one at 536, 264. Link straight to a result with /desert-temple-finder?seed=YOUR_SEED.
Desert temples, also called desert pyramids, hide four loot chests under a trapped floor and, since 1.20, suspicious sand to brush for pottery sherds. This finder maps them for any Java seed, entirely in your browser, so your seed is never sent to a server. It is made for Java Edition: the positions are checked against the game, and Bedrock places temples differently.

What loot does a desert temple hide?
A desert temple is a sandstone pyramid with two towers and an orange and blue terracotta pattern in the middle of the floor. Under that pattern a shaft drops into a hidden room with four chests: they can hold diamonds, emeralds, gold and iron ingots, enchanted books, saddles, horse armor, golden apples and sometimes an enchanted golden apple. Since 1.20 the chests can also hold the dune armor trim, and a second hidden room under the pyramid holds suspicious sand you brush for pottery sherds.
Where do desert temples spawn?
Desert temples generate only in the desert biome. On Java the world is split into regions of 32 by 32 chunks, and each region gets one possible temple spot in its first 24 by 24 chunks. The spot becomes a temple only when the biome there is desert and the ground under the 21 by 21 block footprint is dry, so a big desert usually holds several temples while a seed without sand near spawn has none close by. Deserts often sit next to badlands and savanna, and desert villages share the same biome.
How do I loot a desert temple safely?
Do not jump down the shaft. A stone pressure plate at the bottom of the hidden room is wired to nine TNT blocks under the floor, so one step on it blows up you and the loot. Dig down the side of the shaft with a pickaxe, or place a block on the pressure plate before you land, then break the plate and collect the four chests. Husks spawn in deserts at night, so arrive during the day or bring armor.
Does the desert temple finder work for Bedrock?
This finder is made for Java Edition. Desert temples generate in both editions, but Bedrock uses its own placement and its own surface check, so the same seed puts its temples in other places. Our Java temples match the game seed for seed, while our Bedrock check still gets about one temple in ten wrong, so the Bedrock map here is not verified yet. On Bedrock, use the coordinates as a hint and confirm in game.
