Igloos are small snow block huts, and about half of them hide a basement with a zombie villager, a brewing stand and a chest. This finder maps igloos for any Java seed, entirely in your browser, so your seed is never sent to a server. What is inside an igloo?
The hut itself holds a bed, a furnace, a crafting table and a redstone torch for light, which already makes it a handy first shelter in the snow. Under the carpet in the middle of about half of all igloos sits a trapdoor with a long ladder down to a basement. Down there you find two cells, one with a villager and one with a zombie villager, a brewing stand with a splash potion of weakness, a cauldron and a chest. The chest always holds a golden apple, along with coal, wheat, apples, gold nuggets, rotten flesh, a stone axe and sometimes an emerald.
Where do igloos spawn?
On Java, igloos generate in snowy plains, snowy taiga and snowy slopes. The world is split into regions of 32 by 32 chunks, and each region gets one possible igloo spot in its first 24 by 24 chunks. The spot becomes an igloo only when the biome there is one of the snowy ones, so a seed with a big snowy area near spawn often has several igloos close together, while a seed in a warm climate may have none for thousands of blocks. Ice spikes are not on the list, but they always border snowy plains, so igloos often stand right next to them.
How do I cure the zombie villager in the basement?
The basement gives you everything you need. Take the splash potion of weakness from the brewing stand and throw it at the zombie villager, then use the golden apple from the chest on it while it shakes. After a few minutes it turns back into a villager who gives you a discount on every trade. Light the basement first, keep the iron bars between you and the cell, and do it in daylight hours so other zombies don't join. A cured villager next to a snowy village is the start of a cheap trading hall.
Does the igloo finder work for Bedrock?
This finder is made for Java Edition. Igloos generate in both editions, but Bedrock uses its own placement, so the same seed puts its igloos in other places. Our Java igloos match the game seed for seed. On Bedrock about one igloo in twenty on this map is still wrong, so the Bedrock map here is not verified for this finder yet: use the coordinates as a hint and confirm in game.
