Minecraft Elytra Finder
By the ChunkScan Team · Updated October 2026
Quick answer: To find an elytra, type your Java seed: it hangs in the End ship next to about half of all End cities, and the page shows the nearest ship city. Example: on Java seed 1 the nearest ship city to the main island is at -1168, -240. Link a seed with /elytra-finder?seed=YOUR_SEED.
Type your seed, and this finder shows the nearest End city that has an End ship, the one place the elytra generates, with its X and Z, its chunk and how far it is from the main island or from where you stand. Next nearest skips to the next ship further out. It works for Java Edition 1.18 and later.
Where the elytra is
The elytra only generates in one place: an item frame at the back of an End ship. End ships float next to about half of the End cities on the outer islands of the End. Each ship holds exactly one elytra, one dragon head and two chests of loot, and the elytra never respawns. So finding one means finding an End city that has a ship.
How this finder works
The page runs the Java world generator in your browser, the same engine as our seed map. It places every End city in a square around your start point, drops the ones on islands too low to hold a city, builds each remaining city's layout from the seed and keeps those whose layout has a ship. The search grows from 512 to 4,096 blocks out until it finds one. Cities only generate on the outer islands, so the nearest ship is usually 1,000 to 2,500 blocks from the main island. This matches the game on Java Edition 1.18 and newer. On Bedrock (1.21 and newer) it finds the nearest End city with Bedrock's own rules, but doesn't tell yet which cities have a ship.
How to use it
Type your seed (run /seed in chat, or copy it from the world settings). Leave X and Z empty to search from the main island, or press F3 + C while in the End and paste the line into either box to search from where you stand. Kill the dragon first: each kill opens one End gateway on the main island, and throwing an ender pearl into it takes you to the outer islands. Next nearest skips that city and shows the next ship further out, handy when someone has already looted the first one on a server.
Getting there
Gateways open in a fixed order per seed, so the first one may face away from the ship. Bridge or pearl across from the exit gateway, and bring blocks, slow falling or a bucket of water: shulkers guard the city tower and their bullets make you float. The ship's elytra hangs in the room at the back, behind the dragon head at the front. Show on the seed map opens the city in the End view so you can see the islands around it.
