Minecraft Shipwreck Finder
By the ChunkScan Team · Updated October 2026
Quick answer: To find a shipwreck, enter your world seed on this page and choose Java or Bedrock: the map marks every shipwreck in reach with its coordinates. Wrecks lie in oceans and on beaches, so a seed that spawns by the coast has several close by. For example, Java seed 0 has a shipwreck at 232, 136, a short swim from spawn. Link straight to a result with /shipwreck-finder?seed=YOUR_SEED.
Shipwrecks are the quickest loot in the ocean: up to three chests, one of them with a map to buried treasure and its heart of the sea. This finder maps shipwrecks for any seed, entirely in your browser, so your seed is never sent to a server. Positions differ between Java and Bedrock for the same seed, so pick your edition first.

What loot is in a shipwreck?
A complete wreck has three chests. The supply chest at the bow holds food, coal, paper, pumpkins, bamboo and sometimes TNT or enchanted leather armor. The map chest at the back holds a buried treasure map, paper, feathers, a clock and a compass. The treasure chest under the deck holds iron, gold, emeralds, diamonds, lapis lazuli and bottles of experience. Since 1.20 the chests can also hold the coast armor trim smithing template. Many wrecks are only a bow or a stern, so not every wreck has all three chests.
Where do shipwrecks spawn?
Shipwrecks generate in every ocean biome, from warm to frozen and deep, and as beached wrecks on beaches. On Java the world is split into regions of 24 by 24 chunks, and each region gets one possible wreck spot in its first 20 by 20 chunks. The spot becomes a wreck when the biome there is an ocean or a beach, so a seed with a coast near spawn usually has a wreck within a few hundred blocks. Wrecks can sit upright, on their side or upside down, and in deep oceans they rest on the floor far below the surface.
How do I find the buried treasure from a shipwreck?
Open the map chest, usually at the stern, and hold the buried treasure map. The red cross marks the chest: walk to it until the white marker sits on the cross, then dig straight down a few blocks into the sand or gravel. The chest always holds a heart of the sea, the item you need for a conduit, plus iron, gold and often a diamond. To skip the map, enter the same seed in the buried treasure finder, which marks every treasure chest on Java.
Are shipwrecks the same on Java and Bedrock?
Shipwrecks generate in both editions, but the same seed places them differently on Java and Bedrock, and Bedrock uses its own regions. Choose your edition above before you set sail. Both maps are checked against an independent reference over dozens of seeds per edition, and the shipwrecks matched on both. The loot and the treasure map work the same on both platforms.
