Minecraft Dark Forest Village Seeds
By the ChunkScan Team · Updated August 2026
Dark forests have dark oak trees, huge mushrooms and a canopy so thick that mobs can spawn beneath it during the day. They never have a village, so these seeds pair one with a village nearby. Every seed below was scanned and has a dark forest and a village near spawn. Of the Java 26.3 seeds we scanned, 76,214 have the biome within 512 blocks of spawn and the structure within 1,000 blocks; for half of them the structure is 470 blocks away or closer. Versions with at least 12 such seeds in our scan: 1.18, 1.19, 1.20, 1.21, 26.2 and 26.3.

Dark oak wood with a village to fall back on
Dark oak trees give a lot of wood per tree, and huge mushrooms give mushroom blocks and food. The village nearby supplies beds, crops and trades, and is a safer place to sleep than the forest. Light the forest edge with torches before you chop there.
Do villages spawn in dark forests?
No. Villages never generate in dark forests. They spawn in plains, meadows, deserts, savannas, taigas and snowy plains. On these seeds the village is in a nearby biome within 1,000 blocks of spawn.
Why do mobs spawn in a dark forest during the day?
The dark oak canopy keeps the ground dark enough for hostile mobs to spawn. They also do not burn in sunlight under the leaves. Torches on the ground or cutting the canopy stops it.
